XXI (3rd remote)

International Olga Sosnovskaya Young Vocalists Contest

Merited Artiste of Russia, People’s Artiste of the Komi Republic,

Laureate of the All-Russian and International Vocalists Contests,

soloist of the State Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Komi Republic

Dates: November 20 – December 19, 2021

Genre: academic vocal

Age of participants: from 9 to 21 (inclusive)

The Contest is incorporated in the Association of Music Contests of Russia

The Contest is held using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society, provided by the Presidential Grants Fund.

The Contest Terms

The International Olga Sosnovskaya Young Vocalists Contest in full-time form in Syktyvkar has been held once every two years since 1993. Because of pandemic restrictions, the Contest is held in absentia in a remote format based on video recordings sent by contest participants.

 Young vocalists having initial vocal training, in 4 age groups are allowed to participate.

  •  Younger age group — 9-11
  •  1st average age group — 12-14
  •  2nd average age group — 15-17
  •  Senior age group — 18-21 (inclusive).

Age is determined by the last day of acceptance of applications – November 19, 2021

  •  The Contest is held in 2 rounds. Competitive selection is carried out in absentia in a remote format based on video recordings.
  •  Video recording of each round of the Contest program must strictly comply with the requirements and must be sent within a certain time frame in accordance with the schedule of the Contest. (see Requirements below)
  •  Performance of the Contest program under phonogram is not allowed.
  •  The Jury estimates the appearances of participants by 10 ball system.
  •  The winners of the 1st round of competitive selection are allowed to participate in the 2nd round.
  •  The estimation of a jury member whose pupil takes part in the contest, is not taken into account at count of balls.
  •  If and when at count of balls or when voting there exists the equal amount of votes «for» and «against», the vote of the chairman is final. Olga Sosnovskaya is Constant Chairman of the Contest Jury, in her absence Chairman of the Contest Jury is appointed by the Organizing Committee.

 Within the established bonus fund the Jury has the right:

  1. a) To award not all prizes.
  2. b) To divide monetary awards (except Grand prix) between winners.
  3. c) To award the title “Prize winner (Diplomant) of the International Contest”.
  4. d) To establish special prizes.
  5. e) To award their own prizes to contest participants, concertmasters and teachers.

 Jury decisions are final and are not subject to reconsideration. The jury members’ estimates are not published.

 The Organizing Committee has the right for TV and radio broadcasting of video recordings of the contest program with their further commercial distribution without additional fee to the contest participants.

 Video recordings of competitive listenings are posted in the Internet in the YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/VladimirYurkovskiy/videos for audience voting and further open viewing.

 Grand Prix winners and 1st prize winners of the contests held in 2019 in Krasnoyarsk and St. Petersburg, in 2020 — the XIX (1st remote) Contest in Syktyvkar, in 2021 — the XX (2nd remote) Contest in Krasnodar, have the right to automatically go to the 2nd round of the Contest.

The schedule of the Contest

  •  November 01-19 — acceptance of applications (video) for the 1st round of the Contest
  •  November 20 – concert of the jury members and the winners of the of previous years’ contests (the format to be determined)
  •  November 21-27 — 1st round (jury work: selection of contestants based on video recordings)
  •  November 28 — announcement of the results of round 1 (live)
  •  November 29 – December 06 — acceptance of video performances of participants for the 2nd round of the Contest
  •  December 07-15 — round 2 (jury work: selection of contestants based on video recordings)
  •  December 16 – discussion about the Contest’s results (live)
  •  December 17-18 – online master classes of the jury members (live broadcast)
  •  December 19 — announcement of the contest results (live broadcast), Gala concert of the winners of the Contest (the format to be determined) Extra events
  •  December 21-26 – online master classes and lectures of the jury members, courses of improvement of qualification of teachers and concertmasters (live broadcasts, the schedule to be determined)

Competitive requirements on the Program of Appearances

Soloists-vocalists. Performance time: no more than 12 minutes

 1st round:

Younger age group (9-11) (2 compositions are recorded in one file)

  •  folk song accompanied by a piano or «a capella»
  •  musical composition by choice

1st average age group (12-14) (2 compositions are recorded in one file)

  • folk song accompanied by a piano or «a capella»
  • aria, arietta, madrigal, canzone of XVI-XVIII century

2nd average age group (15-17) (2 compositions are recorded in one file, by choice)

  •  folk song accompanied by a piano or «a capella»
  •  aria, аrietta, madrigal, canzone of XVI-XVIII century
  •  romance of a Russian composer

Senior age group (18-21) (2 compositions are recorded in one file, by choice)

  •  folk song accompanied by a piano or “a capella”
  •  aria of XVI-XVIII century
  •  romance of a Russian composer

2nd round

Younger age group (9-11) (2 compositions are recorded in one file)

  • song or romance (Mozart, Schubert, Vekerlen, Haydn, Grieg, Brams, Beethoven, Glinka, Tchaikowsky, Bulahov, Gurilev, Varlamov, etc.)
  • musical composition by choice

1st average age group (12-14) (2 compositions are recorded in one file)

  •  song or romance (Mozart, Schubert, Vekerlen, Haydn, Grieg, Brams, Beethoven, Glinka, Tchaikowsky, Bulahov, Gurilev, Varlamov, etc.)
  •  musical composition by choice

2nd average age group (15-17) (3 compositions are recorded in one file)

  •  aria of a Russian or foreign composer romance of a foreign composer or Sergei Rachmaninoff (by choice)
  •  musical composition by choice

Senior age group (18-21) (3 compositions are recorded in one file)

  •  aria from an opera of a Russian or foreign composer
  •  romance of a foreign composer or Sergei Rachmaninoff (by choice)
  •  musical composition of composer of XX-XXI century

The performance of the program is desirable in the language of the original. Musical compositions performed in the 1st round cannot be performed again in the 2nd round. It is recommended that the selection of musical compositions correspond to the age of the participants (complexity, character, texts). Musical material of composers of the Komi Republic can be mailed out by prior request and agreement. 1st average age group (12-14)

2nd average age group (15-17)

  •  first prize and the title of laureate 25.000 rubles
  •  second prize and the title of laureate 20.000 rubles

Senior age group (18-21)

  •  first prize and the title of laureate 40.000 rubles
  •  second prize and the title of laureate 35.000 rubles
  •  third prize and the title of laureate 30.000 rubles

Special prizes and monetary awards

  •  prize to the teacher of «GRAND PRIX» winner 20.000 rubles
  •  prize to the best concertmaster (laureate) 20.000 rubles
  •  prize for the best performance of a composition of a composer of the Komi Republic 10.000 rubles
  •  prize for the best performance of romance of Sergei Rachmaninoff 20.000 rubles
  •  prize for the best performance of a composition of a contemporary composer 20.000 rubles
  •  title “Prize winner (Diplomant) of the Contest ”prize of spectators’ sympathies 10.000 rubles
  •  three special monetary prizes by jury decisions
  •  individual master classes of the jury members

The winners of the Contest in the corresponding nomination are awarded the title “The laureate of the International Contest” or “The diplomant of the International Contest” and are given diplomas and monetary prizes. All other participants are awarded official certificates for participating in the Contest.

The «Grand Prix» of the Contest (cash prize) and the «Olga Sosnovskaya Prize» (the statuette made of valuable mineral stones of Ural gems) are special prizes that are awarded for high performing skills and artistry. The winner of the Grand Prix is recognized as the absolute winner of the Contest.

 

Terms for participation in the Contest

Applications for participation in the Contest are accepted from November 01 to 19, 2021.

During this period, you must send the following documents to the Organizing Committee:

  •  a completed application (Appendix 1 – until November 19, Appendix 2 – until December 06);
  •  a video recording of the Contest program (according to the requirements)  program for tours in the scanned version (a copy in MS Word format is required);
  •  color photo (portrait, artistic photos are not allowed) in JPEG format (file at least 2 MB);
  •  a short creative biography in MS Word format (place of birth, educational institution, teacher, participation in contests, master classes, other creative achievements);
  •  a copy (scan) of your passport or birth certificate;
  •  a copy (scan) of ITN (ИНН), INILA (СНИЛС), bank card requisites are required for the citizens of Russian Federation for receiving monetary prizes;
  •  a permission (scan) for personal data processing (Appendix 3)  receipt (scan) for payment of the entrance fee.

Applications for participation in the contest and documents submitted later than the specified period are not considered and are not returned to the applicant.

The application and the contest program must be sent in 2 versions — scanned version and file in the MS Word format.

Financial terms for participation in the Contest

An obligatory condition for participation in the Contest is the payment of the registration fee. The

amount of the registration fee for participants is:

  •  4.000 rubles (if payment is made before November 19, 2021)
  •  5.000 rubles (if payment is made from November 20 to November 27, 2021)

(for foreign participants – in euros or US dollars according to Central Bank of Russian Federation exchange rate)

Payment can be made by:

  1. Bank card
  2. Bank transfer to the account of the Organizing Committee of the Contest
  3. Invoice

Requirements for video recordings of competitive performances of participants:

  1. Video recording must be made no earlier than October 01, 2021.
  2. Video recording of each round of the contest program must be recorded only on a video camera or smartphone camera in high resolution quality.
  3. The recording must be made in the horizontal position of the screen.
  4. The camera must be arranged so that the contestant (full height), the instrument (piano or Grand piano) and the concertmaster get into the frame. Leg circumcision of the contestant is not allowed in the frame.
  5. Performance of the competitive program is made only under the Grand piano or the piano.
  6. Performance of the competitive program under a phonogram is not allowed.
  7. Recording the sound of the voice and instrument should be natural and without additional sound effects of the equipment. Natural acoustics (hall) are allowed.
  8. The background behind the performer should be neutral without unnecessary items.
  9. Appearance of the performer — concert dress or suit.
  10. The sequence of performed works is determined by the participants themselves.
  11. The contestants must introduce themselves (date of video recording, first name, last name, age, city) and announce his / her performance  program before the start of the competitive program. Announcing by another person behind the scenes is allowed during recording.
  12. All works of the competitive program of each round are performed in a row one after another and the recording must be made in a single file without interruptions and edits.
  13. The link to the video recording of the competitive performance is indicated in the application. Attention: the link must be direct link on the file stored on any internet file storages like Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, etc. Links on the streaming services like YouTube are not allowed.

P.S. We kindly ask you to take all responsibility for your video recording. The evaluation of the jury members and the decision to include your performance in the program of the final online gala concert of the winners will depend on the quality of the sound and image, on your appearance and artistic design of the image.

during the Contest for their further TV and radio broadcasting and in the Internet, or by

other information and telecommunications methods with their further possible commercial

distribution without additional fee to the participants of the Contest.
